Learning outcomes of course unit | 1) ability to use the principles of leadership and administrative skills; 2) ability to give commands, clear instructions and guidance as appropriate; 3) ability to organize, plan and coordinate actions in key operations; 4) ability to define goals and objectives for successful performance; 5) ability to respond adequately to suggestions and questions; 6) knowledge of shipboard personnel management and training; 7) knowledge of methods of effective resource management and ability to apply them; 8) knowledge of decision-making methods and ability to apply them; 9) knowledge of workload standards; 10) knowledge of the symptoms of stress and fatigue; 11) understanding the importance of cultural differences in multinational crews; 12) understanding of the issues of organization and management of ship's crews, roles and responsibilities of the command staff in conformity with many international regulations of IMO and ILO; 13) skills to analyse, interpret information and develop and substantiate recommendations on methods and techniques of management activities in voyage conditions; 14) skills to determine the consequences and results of the decisions made; 15) skills of professional responsibility. |

Content of course unit | The main objective of studying the discipline "Marine Resource Management" is to form in future fleet ship's commanders a full understanding of their roles, functions and responsibilities of a ship's leader. To know and be able to apply the principles of leadership and administration at all levels of ship's crew management in accordance with the requirements of STCW Convention and STCW Code as amended, i.e. to be able to effectively manage ship's personnel during shipboard operations.
