- Demonstrate knowledge of communication systems and radio communications during search, rescue and emergency situations.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the basic principles of ship’s design, the effect of damage and/or flooding of any compartment on the ship’s sitting and stability, and measures to be taken for flood control.
- Demonstrate the ability to make decisions and take actions in unforeseen conditions, in particular during emergencies and distress calls at sea, to protect and ensure the safety of passengers, crew, ship and cargo, and to co-ordinate search and rescue operations.
- Demonstrate knowledge of English, which allows to use English-language technical literature and discuss professional matters in English while performing professional duties.
- Demonstrate knowledge of international requirements for shipboard life-saving appliances.
- Demonstrate skills in usage of life-saving appliances and equipment, maintaining the equipment, devices and systems in operational condition that ensures the safety of the ship and people.
- Demonstrate the skills of conducting abandon ship drills and ability to operate lifeboats, life rafts and rescue boats, devices and means for their launching, as well as equipment for them.
- Demonstrate knowledge of fire types , the principle of operation of firefighting systems, the ability to extinguish fires, including fires of fuel systems, using appropriate equipment,; the ability to organize firefighting drills.
- Demonstrate knowledge of methods and means of fire prevention, fire detection and firefighting, vessel damage control and personal survival.
- Demonstrate knowledge of international and national regulations regarding safety of human life at sea and marine environmental protection, and ensure their compliance.
- Demonstrate skills of personal survival, personal safety and knowledge of public duties on board ships.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the internal ship communication systems and the ability to transmit, receive and register messages in accordance with the established requirements.
