Course unit | Technology of cargoes transportation |
Nomber of credits ECTS | 3.0 |
Language of education | Ukrainian/English |
Learning outcomes of course unit | Knowledge of: - international transport classification of cargoess, their linear, volumetric and mass characteristics, as well as their physical and mechanical, thermophysical and hygroscopic properties; - causes of cargo damage during cargo operations and transportation by sea, especially in adverse weather conditions; - technological features of transportation of general, bulk, flowing bulk, liquid, timber, dangerous and perishable cargoes; - general requirements for the ship's Stowage Plan, safe methods and technologies for handling, stowing and securing cargoes, including dangerous and harmful ones, as well as their impact on ensuring the safety of human life (crew members and shore personnel during the ship's staying in the port); - the impact of cargoes, including heavy-weight, on the seaworthiness and operational characteristics of the ship, the strength of its hull; - properties of air and determination of its parameters, formation of the microclimate of the ship's cargo spaces when sailing in different climatic zones, its effect on the preservation of cargoes during sea transportation; - basic provisions of international conventions, UN resolutions, IMO codes, standards and recommendations for the transportation of various types of cargoes, including dangerous goods. Ability: - to systematize and analyze data on the transport characteristics of cargoes, including the features of tare and packaging, calculate their linear, volumetric and mass characteristics; - to use international normative documents of the IMO and national rules of Ukraine to ensure the safety of cargoes during their transportation by sea; - to understand the transport documentation related to the acceptance of cargoes, their sea transportation by ship and delivery to Consignees, and draw up documents when loading / unloading cargoes in the port; - to make calculations of the state of microclimate formation of cargo spaces when the ship is sailing in different climatic zones; - to draw up preliminary and executive Cargo Plans for universal and specialized vessels, taking into account stability, other seaworthy, as well as operational qualities of the vessel, hull strength; - to use automatic equipment, which includes a database for calculating the ship's Cargo Plan, as well as knowledge of international rules and regulatory documents regarding loading and ballasting of the ship, keeping the hull stress within safe limits; - to distribute dangerous cargoes in the ship's cargo spaces depending on their class and compatibility. |

Content of course unit | The main goal of studying the academic discipline is the formation of cadets (students) a complex of theoretical basic knowledge and practical skills in planning and ensuring safe loading, disposition, fastening, care during the voyage and unloading of cargo, ensuring the safety of human life during cargo operations on a ship. – Section 1. Transport characteristics of cargoes; – Section 2. Basic methods of ensuring the preservation of cargoes during transportation on sea vessels; – Section 3. Cargo Plan of the vessel, ensuring the maximum use of the deadweight cargo capacity and cargo capacity of the ship, calculation of the amount of cargo to be loaded; – Chapter 4. Technology of transportation of various types of cargoes on sea vessels. |
