Learning outcomes of course unit | Knowledge of the basic laws and principles of quantum mechanics, the structure of atoms and molecules, the structure of Mendeleev’s periodic system. Knowledge of the general laws of chemical processes, in particular, knowledge and understanding of the laws of thermodynamics, the meaning and properties of thermodynamic functions, the mechanism and rate of chemical reactions, chemical equilibrium. Knowledge of general concepts about solutions, reactions and equilibrium in electrolyte solutions. Knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of electrochemistry: redox processes, the occurrence of electrode potentials, the principles of operation of chemical current sources. Knowledge of the mechanism of corrosion of metals and alloys, protection of metals and alloys from corrosion. Knowledge of the physical and chemical properties of water, technical indicators of water quality; water treatment methods used on ships. Knowledge of the physical and chemical properties, composition and use of fuels and lubricating oils. Knowledge of environmental problems caused by chemical processes in different areas of human activity. Ability to use chemical thinking skills, that is, a complex of theoretical and concrete practical knowledge about the composition, properties, structure of substances and materials, the patterns of their transformations, the scope of their application. Ability to use basic methods of chemical experiment. Ability to navigate certain issues of chemistry when studying special disciplines or directly in practical activities. Ability to use knowledge of the mechanisms of chemical reactions and properties of substances to protect the environment. Ability to comply with environmental requirements during the operation of ships. |
