Learning outcomes of course unit | Knowledge and understanding: - goals and current tasks of international standards and conventions; - areas of application of the provisions of the MARPOL, SOLAS, STCW Conventions and quality standards applicable to sea vessels; - the functions of classification societies, the elements of technical control carried out by them, and the periodicity of notifications; - operational requirements, schemes and principle of operation of ship equipment intended for environmental protection. Skill: - apply in professional activity the main provisions of Conventions and standards, provisions of regulatory documents regulating quality and safety, process approach and cause-and-effect analysis of factors and conditions affecting the quality of professional activity; - control and ensure the safety of personnel and the vessel; - manage environmental pollution prevention and safe activities in ship conditions. |

Content of course unit | The acquisition of learning outcomes for the educational component is achieved by studying the following topics: - Goals and purposes of the discipline. Overview of the main international conventions. Ensuring compliance with the requirements of the International Convention and the Code on training and certification of seafarers and watchkeeping of 1978, as amended; - Issues of resource management in the professional activity of ship mechanics. Classification, structure and methods of evaluating operational indicators; - Purpose and goals of ISO standardization in the maritime industry. Requirements of ISO standards; - Control and supervision of compliance with the requirements of the International Convention for the Protection of Life at Sea of 1974, as amended; - International Code for the Security of Ships and Port Facilities (ISPS Code); - Control and supervision of compliance with the requirements for the protection of the aquatic marine environment: operational requirements for ship equipment and systems, design, principle of operation and conditions for ensuring the operation of the equipment; - Control and supervision of compliance with the requirements of Annex VI of the 1973 International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships, as amended by the 1978 Protocol. to it, with amendments regarding the prevention of air pollution; - Rules of the Register of Shipping of Ukraine regarding the identification of vessels. |
