Learning outcomes of course unit

Know and understand:

1) Ship’s internal combustion engines (SICE) principle of operation, classification, and marking

2) purpose, operating conditions, structural parameters of engines units and parts , their service systems;

3) the characteristics of fuels and lubricants for SICE, their preparation methods in ship conditions;

4) the  processes in engines, their control and regulation methods;

5) parameters of thermal stress and dynamic loads, control and ensuring permissible levels methods;

6) characteristics and modes of operation of SICE in different operating conditions;

7) ecological characteristics of SICE, methods of reducing harmful effects on the environment;

8) engine quality parameters and means of their improvement.

Be able:

1) using the available documentation, prepare for the operation of the SICE;

2) in accordance with the position and functional duties to ensure direct operation, management of technical use and  operation maintenance (TU and TM) of SICE, to engage in production, design and research activities in the field of  marine diesel engines operation;

3) control the operating processes parameters, thermal and mechanical stress of engines, carry out regulation that ensures compliance with the requirements of regulatory documents;

4) carry out TM operations of SICE;

5) draw up organizational and technical documentation for TU and TM of the SICE.
