Learning outcomes of course unit | Students have to know: - basic provisions of metrology; - basic rules for carrying out/measuring and servicing ship's instruments; - device and principle of operation of ship control and measuring devices; - basic electrical diagrams of electrical measuring devices; - basic functional schemes of remote, automated measuring systems. Students have to be able to: - explain the principles to be observed when keeping an engine watch at sea and in port, including the following provisions of Chapter VIII, Section A-VIII/1 of the STCW Convention; - keep machine logs, technically competently determining the values of indicators of physical quantities with the help of those devices that are on the ship; - install mobile control and measuring devices for taking the values of physical quantities; - determine the accuracy of instrument readings; - organize metrological support of devices; - control the correct functioning of devices; - carry out technical maintenance of devices; - to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in the course of training in solving problems of professional activity. |

Characteristics of measuring quantities. Classification of liquid and gas flow measurement methods. Section 6. Basic methods and means of measuring the level of liquids in various tanks. Section 7. Methods and technical means of measuring the power of ship engines. Section 8. Methods and devices for measuring rotational movement parameters. Section 9. Methods and devices for quality control of working environments. |
