Learning outcomes of course unit

Industrial training is carried out in accordance with the requirements of the International Convention on the Training and Certification of Seafarers and Watchkeeping of 1978, as amended, with the aim of consolidating theoretical knowledge, acquiring practical experience of working on ships by cadets (students) in order to obtain appropriate qualifications and the ability to fulfil their professional duties with the requirements compliance for the protection of human life and the preservation of property at sea, as well as the protection of the marine environment.

The training results obtained during the implementation of practical programs are documented in the "Registration book of practical training of a candidate for the title of engineer of the third category" (Тrаіnіng Rесоrd Воок (TRB))

Production practice (technological, sailing on board the ship (by type)) consists of the following parts:

  1. First shipboard practice.
  2. Second shipboard practice.
  3. The third shipboard practice.

The acquisition of learning outcomes for the educational component is achieved by studying the educational material in the following sections:

- Preparatory stage. Development and coordination of the program and tasks of shipboard practice

- Preliminary instruction at the place (base) of shipboard practice

- Performance of functional duties as assigned, collection of necessary documents and materials for practical application

- Summarizing the results of shipboard practice and preparing report documentation.

The individual task for the practice period is determined by the type of vessel chosen by the cadet / student for shipboard practice, in particular:

  1. Sailing practice on board a cargo ship.
  2. Sailing practice on board a bulk vessel.
  3. Sailing practice on board a passenger ship.

The type of ship determines the features of the ship's equipment, systems and their operation, maintenance and repair.

The internship program is aimed at fulfilling the requirements of STCW-78, according to which the total period of practical training is 12 months, of which 6 months are watchkeeping in the engine room under the guidance of a certified specialist, 6 months are practical training in ship equipment repair.

It is possible for a cadet/student to undergo practical training in the repair of ship equipment in full and/or in part, not only on board the ship, but also at ship repair enterprises.
