Learning outcomes of course unit
  • Involves the acquisition of conceptual knowledge in terms of the  computers operation and computer networks on the ship.
  • Understanding the principles of data processing, knowledge of the principles of building and using computer networks on ships, in particular on the bridge, in the engine room and for solving commercial tasks.
Types of educational work lecture classes, practical classes, laboratory classes, doing calculation projects.

  • Basics of building and functioning of computer and controller system.
  • Architecture and functions of computers and controllers.
  • Communication devices with the object, their functions, properties, settings and role in the construction of distributed control systems on ships.
  • Quantization of signals. Transition from analog to digital form of signal representation.
  • Local and external buses of the computer system. HTML language. Creation of web pages.
  • Composition and structure of ship information networks. Seven-level OSI model. Network protocols CSMA/CD, Token Bus, Token Ring.
  • Physical media of data transmission: coaxial cables, twisted pair, optical fibers, their structure. Network topologies: bus, ring, star, etc.
  • Specialized PC Worx and Codesys software for developing automation projects based on programmable controllers. SCADA systems, OPC standards. TCP/IP protocol.
  • Network operating systems, their capabilities and configuration for work in the ship network. Operating systems and real-time processes.
  • Ethernet family technologies and typical network equipment: switches, hubs, bridges. Wireless network technologies of the WiFi and BlueTooth families. Network technologies Token Ring, FDDI, 100VG-anyLAN, ATM. Industrial Ethernet technologies. The structure of the TATU Smart Lab laboratory complex.
  • Typical industrial (ship) networks: Profibus, Profi-net, Modbus, Modbus TCP, ASI, LON, FIP, HART, structure and principles of their construction. Basic requirements for ship networks. Requirements for the interaction of devices in the network. Interfaces RS232, RS422, RS485, "current loop", USS.
