  • Knowledge of:
    • history of development, structure, composition, purpose, technical characteristics of  automation equipment
    • basic operating principles of ship power plant management systems; operational principles of marine diesel engines speed regulstors;
    • methods of calculating the parameters of ship regulators and methods of ship control systems modeling;
    • principles of maintenance and repair of electrical, electronic measuring and control systems;
    • structure, purpose, characteristics of remote automated control systems (remote automated control  of the main engine );
    • the main trends and prospects for the development of intelligent ship management systems.
  • Skills:
    • to set up control systems of ship power installations (SPI).
    • calculate mathematical models of SPI objects
    • to design control systems of SPI units

Content of course unit
  • General characteristics of ship automatic control systems (ACS), classification, composition and structure. Automation classes.
  • Adaptive ship automatic control systems. Methods of adaptive adjustment of PID parameters - regulators in ACS units of SPI  units. R. Kalman's method; table method of Kopelovich. Manual tuning for transient analysis.
  • Principles of action of cascaded, multi-linked ship automatic control systems. Principle of self-steering vessels operation.
  • Temperature control systems of cooling water and engine oil; 
  • Principles of construction of remote automated control of the main enginesystems. Electronic management of the main engine. The principle of operation of the pump-nozzle.
  • Automation of ship boilers.
  • Automation of the ship separator system.
  • Automation of ballast and sanitary systems.
  • Automation of the climate control system.
  • Automation of the air compressor.
  • Automation of the fire system.
  • Automation of the engine room drainage system.
Equipment (if applicable)    Special software is used to simulate the operation of the ACS - simulator programs (SEERS, Virtual Engine room, MVTU) for the control of SPI units. Laboratory of remote automated control GROM, SHIPKA.
