- Applicants will study and activate the vocabulary necessary for working with electric motors, transformers, electrical installations, networks, and other electrical equipment on ships and electrical safety, as well as during troubleshooting on cargo
- They will be able to carry out controlled communication on the topics indicated above, study the material on the following topics: electric tools, electrical fittings and lamps.
- Applicants will also learn and activate topic vocabulary related to magnetic materials, permanent and alternating magnets, conductivity, types of electric current, basic electrical units and electrical measuring intrument They will also learn and activate topic vocabulary related to rotating electrical machines, namely generators and DC motors. Further training and improvement of the skills and abilities of reading technical texts will be carried out.
- They will remember and activate the topic vocabulary related to the design, types, principles of operation and purpose of generators and direct current motors; alternating current generators, synchronous motors and special purpose machines. They will further develop and improve their skills and abilities in reading relevant technical texts.
- Applicants will work out the structures of technical syntax, which include participles of present and past tenses, structures of the passive infinitive and modal verbs with infinitives.
- They will acquire and activate the topic vocabulary related to the responsibilities of electrical engineers regarding the maintenance of shipboard electrical equipment, shipboard electrical networks, switchboards and switchboard equipment, compliance with electrical safety rules, procedures for diagnosing damage to shipboard electrical machines and means of their elimination. They will further develop the skills and abilities of reading instructions for the operation of shipboard electrical devices and systems.
- They will work out the means of combining parts of a complex sentence and separate sentences in a paragraph with the help of different conjunctions, study phrasal verbs (the ones with prepositions that change the meaning of these verbs; prepositions must be stressed) widely used in technical texts, conditional sentences, and also accumulate experience in translating technical texts into English.
- Applicants will attend a multimedia class at the end of the semester to demonstrate their prepared presentations on the topics of a thematic content block and further discuss the viewed material.
