  • Knowledge of the basic principles of vessel hull structure of various types. General understanding of the main components of the vessel construction and their correct naming.
  • Knowledge of the vessel main characteristics, its navigational qualities, and the peculiarities of different types of vessels.
  • Understanding the vessel equipment and systems, their purposes. General knowledge of structural elements.
  • Ability to apply acquired knowledge for effective and safe vessel operation.

  • Features of general schemes of different types of vessels.
  • Characteristics of vessels, classification of maritime vessels. Architectural and constructional features. Classification societies. Ship class according to the Rules of the Register.
  • Geometry of the hull.
  • Structure of the vessel's hull.
  • Buoyancy and trim of the vessel. Initial stability. Norms of stability.
  • Unsinkability of the vessel.
  • Resistance of vessel movement. Components of vessel resistance and methods of reducing them.
  • Types of propellers. Interaction of the propeller and the vessel's hull.
  • Maneuverability of the vessel.
  • Structure of the vessel's hull. Elements: beams, plates, frames. Decks. Planking systems. Constructive midship frame of vessels with different planking systems.
  • General and local strength of the hull. Strength control.
  • Anchoring, mooring, towing, steering, cargo, and rescue equipment.
  • General ship systems: purpose, classification, diagrams, components.
