Successful completion of the program of the educational discipline "Management of Maritime Operations of Ships" provides for the cadet (student) to obtain the following learning outcomes in the educational discipline:

  1. Ship management in difficult conditions.
  2. Execution of mooring operations.
  3. General ship organization in emergency situations.
Types of educational work Lectures, practical classes
Type of final control
Content of course unit
  1. Maneuvering when approaching the pilot station and embarking or disembarking pilots, taking into account maneuvering characteristics vessel.
  2. Shiphandling while sailing on rivers, estuaries and restricted waters, taking into account the influence of current, wind and shallow water under the keel on controllability. Refloating the vessel from the ground.
  3. Using the turning technique with a constant angular velocity.
  4. Maneuvering in shallow water, including a decrease of underwater clearance due to an increase speed, rolling and pitching.
  5. Interaction between moving vessels, as well as interaction of one's own vessel with adjacent shores (channel effect).
  6. Mooring and unmooring with tugs or without tugs under various wind, current and tide conditions.
  7. Interaction between the ship and the tugboat. Vessel towing.
  8. Use of main engine and maneuvering systems.
  9. Types of anchors; choice of anchorage; anchoring on one or two anchors on a on a small water area and factors affecting the choice of the required length of the anchor chain; the anchoring procedure in deep and shallow water, the "anchor does not hold" situation, cleaning the anchor.
  10. Docking of damaged and undamaged vessels.
  11. Shiphandling in stormy conditions, including providing assistance to a ship or aircraft in distress; towing; means of keeping a vessel not under command in a safe position relative to the crest of a wave, reducing drift and using oil.
  12. Precautions when maneuvering during the lowing of duty boats, lifeboats or rafts in stormy weather.
  13. Ways of lifting victims onto the ship from boats on duty, lifeboats or rafts.
  14. The ability to determine the maneuvering characteristics of common types of vessels, paying special attention to braking distances and circulation diameter at different speeds.
  15. Sailing at reduced speed to avoid damage caused by the accompanying wave of your vessel.
  16. Practical measures taken when sailing in ice or near ice, or in conditions of icing of the vessel.
  17. Use of traffic separation systems and vessel traffic control systems and maneuvering while sailing in or near them.
