Learning outcomes of course unit

Knowledge:

- of the basics of the theory of management of transport processes in the system of maritime navigation;

- of the purpose and content of the main international conventions, acts and national regulatory rules governing various aspects of the activities of transport enterprises;

- of the features of work, functions and responsibilities of all participants in the transport process of cargo delivery by sea;

- of the quality management system in shipping;

- of the basic techniques of risk-oriented management in maritime transport;

- of the purpose of technical supervision of ships in ensuring the seaworthy state of the vessel, ship documentation issued by classification societies, its content and operational value;

- of the service market to analyze the choice of the most appropriate relationship schemes and control over the work of companies working in the field of servicing ships in ports;

- of the organization of maritime transportation by various forms of navigation and the characteristics and features of transport-technological and multimodal cargo transportation systems;

- of the logistics concept of international transportation of goods.

Ability:

- to understand the impact of international trade (its volume, geography and commodity structure) on the organization of work, the dynamics of the main cargo flows, the development and specialization of maritime transport;

- to determine the transport characteristics of goods and analyze the possibilities and conditions of their safe transportation;

- to use process approaches in managing the fleet of a shipping company;

- to perform operational planning, management and control of individual elements of the transport process of the vessel;

- to perform calculations for optimization and use of the transport vessel;

- to protect the interests of its shipowner at different stages of the transport process of the vessel;

- to create a proper motivational basis for staff, taking into account the specific features of the maritime industry;

- to systematize and analyze modern information about the technological processes of cargo handling of ships in seaports for decision-making, to ensure the operational results of the voyage;

- to apply international and national legislation to ensure the safety of shipping and the prevention of environmental pollution.

Content of course unit

The main purpose of studying the discipline: formation of systematic knowledgenecessary for the implementation of scientific and production activities in the     field of management and organization of the transport process and function of maritime shipping as an integral system in the changing conditions of the modern market of transport services; acquisition of practical skills in applying research methods to determine conditions, various factors and methods of analysis when solving production problems in the organization and development of maritime transport, finding ways to solve them and obtain appropriate results.
