Learning outcomes of course unit
  • Knowledge and understanding of the physical nature of the main dynamic processes in shipboard automated electrical power systems (SAEPS).
  • Knowledge of the theoretical foundations of dynamic processes study in SAEPS.
  • Knowledge of criteria and methods of assessing the stability of electric power systems, as well as measures to ensure and increase stability.
  • The ability to investigate dynamic processes in real SAEPS and conduct simulations of dynamic processes with the help of computer programs.
  • The ability to perform calculations of the electric power system stability, using modern methods of calculations and give an analytical assessment of the obtained results.
  • The ability to determine measures to ensure stability during calculations or normative excitations in the electric power system.

  • Dynamic processes on a laboratory stand study.
  • SAEPS elements parameters measurement and calculation.
  • High-speed switches and short-circuit protection.
  • Electrical braking of generators.
  • Application of shunting and current-limiting reactors.
  • Force excitation of synchronous machines.
Equipment (if applicable) Educational and experimental shipboard laboratory equipment for the study of dynamic processes, digital multimeters, ammeters, voltmeters and oscilloscopes. Special educational and experimental laboratory stands and application programmes packages are used for modelling dynamic processes.
