- The ability to perform simulation (computer) modelling and optimization of the parameters of marine (river) engineering objects on the basis of developed and available research and design tools, including standard and specialized application programme packages.
- The ability to use automated design systems, computing equipment and information technologies in professional activities.
- The ability to apply methods of modern automatic control theory and electric drive theory in research, modernization and design of ship electrical equipment and automation means.

- Methodology of design and synthesis of ship control systems (SCS).
- Organizational design issues. Development of a technical task. Application of CAD in methods of ship ACS synthesis.
- Methods of ACS structural and parametric identification.
- Identification of control objects. Active and passive methods. Criteria.
- Kalman’s method. Structural identification. Implementation examples. Processing of experimental data.
- Synthesis of adaptive control systems.
- Definition of ACS adaptation.
- Adaptation quality criteria. Adaptation methods of Rotach, Smith, tabular, with a reference model.
- Fuzzy adaptive ACS.
- PID-controllers adaptation methods.Adaptation of SCS with the help of neural networks.
