Learning outcomes of course unit
  • The ability to apply specialized conceptual knowledge, which includes modern scientific achievements, as well as a critical understanding of modern problems in the field of design and maintenance of ship electrical equipment and automation means to solve complex problems of professional activity.
  • The ability to develop programmes of maintenance, operation modes optimization, usage, renovation, repair and disposal of shipboard electrical and electromechanical equipment and automation means, taking into account advanced Ukrainian and international experience and using modern systems of computer aided design, computing equipment and information technology.
  • The ability to organize data gathering, summarize and analyze it concerning the technical condition, environmental and operational characteristics of various types of ship electrical power equipment and automation means during their operation, testing and adjustment.
  • The ability to apply methods of modern automatic control, electric drive, reliability, diagnostics, intelligent control and decision-making theories during design, research, modernization, operation and technical condition determination of the ship’s electrical equipment and automation means.

  • General regulations requirements of the Register of Ukraine shipping and other classification societies to the organization of technical operation of ship electrical equipment (SEE) and automation (SA). Annex VI requirements to MARPOL-2005 convention, and the IMO ‘Sulfur’ Resolution- 2010. A comprehensive scientific approach to the assessment of SEE and SA technical condition.
  • The main indicators of SEE and SA technical condition. Organization of technical usage, maintenance and repair of ship electronic and electromechanical equipment. Organization of keeping relevant ship documentation in the process of SEE and SA operation.
  • Planning and management of complex technical systems operation. Calculation and parameters analysis of vessels’ maintenance and repair network schedules.
  • Taking into account operating conditions and physical nature of SEE and SA failures. The usage of the reliability theory in determining the characteristics and quantitative parameters of complex systems, SEE and SA failure-free and reparability indicators.
  • Determination of SEE and SA reliability statistical parameters based on operational data. Usage of redundancy for SEE and SA reliability enhancement. The influence of inspections of SEE and SA technical condition on their reliability.
  • Implementation of diagnostic methods in the process of assessing SEE and SA technical condition. Technical diagnosis modern means of complex ship technical systems. The choice of diagnostic methods and diagnostic indicators for assessing SEE and SA condition.
