Learning outcomes of course unit | Remembering: regulatory conditions of the voyage charter; the principles of applying the responsibility of the subjects of legal relationships with foreign elements in the field of merchant shipping; basic documents in the registration of maritime emergency events. Understanding: peculiarities of the regulation method of private legal relationships with foreign elements in merchant shipping; the essence and grounds of direct liability in international private legal relationships in the field of merchant shipping; essence and content of transport obligations in the maritime industry. Applying of Knowledge (Skills): interpretation of international private legal relations regulating sources in the field of merchant shipping; calculation of laytime; use of negotiable multimodal FIATA bill of lading in professional legal activities in the field of merchant shipping. Analyzing: practices of resolving private law disputes in merchant shipping; peculiarities of settlement of demurrage claims; determination of legal consequences of maritime events; selection of unification types of international norms regulating private legal relationships in merchant shipping Evaluating: the role of international organizations in the unification and codification of international private maritime law; justification of the main aspects of shipowner and cargo owner liability; determination of the peculiarities of cargo maintenance by the shipowner in the port of destination. Creating: solving problems using the skills of calculating laytime and demurrage during carriage of cargo by sea. |

Means of securing the property interests of the shipowner during a maritime event. The ownership of cargo during the performance of a contract of carriage of goods by sea. The international jurisdiction of civil disputes in merchant shipping. The litigation and arbitration in the maritime incidents. The practice of consideration of private law disputes regarding liability for the consequences of an accident at sea in foreign countries. |
