Learning outcomes of course unit

- thorough knowledge of the basic principles in keeping a navigational watch;

- the use of routeing in accordance with the General Provisions on Ship’s Routeing;

- the use of navigational equipment data for maintaining a safe navigational watch;

- knowledge of blind pilotage techniques;

- the use of reporting in accordance with the General Principles for Ship Reporting Systems and with VTS procedures;

- ability to ensure the organization and compliance with the procedure to maintain a safe navigational watch, the ability to carry out navigation in any conditions using appropriate methods to obtain accurate position fixing and optimal use of all available navigational data for navigation.

Types of educational work - lectures; - self-study of sections of the academic discipline: keeping watch in port; peculiarities of the navigational watch on different types of ships; the use of navigational equipment data to maitain a safe watchkeeping; basic principles of watchkeeping in the dynamic positioning mode; keeping a navigational watch with pilot on board; anchoring, keeping an anchor watch; - preparation for practical classes
