Learning outcomes of course unit
  1. Knowledge of navigation conditions and their impact on the seaworthiness of the vessel.
  2. Knowledge of the impact of cargo on the seaworthiness and stability of the vessel in real sea conditions.
  3. Knowledge of the impact of cargo and cargo operations on trim and stability in port and roads conditions
  4. The use of storm diagrams and devices for calculating hull stresses, as well as knowledge of loading and ballasting rules, in order to keep hull stresses within acceptable limits.
  5. Working knowledge and application of stability booklet, trim and stress information; diagrams and devices for calculating body stresses.
  6. Working understanding of the main measures to be taken in case of partial loss of seaworthiness under intact condition.
  7. Knowledge of the constraints in terms of strength of the most important structural elements of the ship and the ability to interpret the obtained values of bending moments and shear forces.
  8. Understanding of the basic principles of the ship's structure, the theory and factors that affect seaworthiness, as well as the measures that need to be taken to ensure it.
