Learning outcomes of course unit

- Knowledge of the basic electrical engineering laws, analysis methods of electric circuits and the ability to apply them for the calculation of DC and AC electric circuits in stable and transient modes;

- knowledge of the operation mode, properties, application area of electrical devices and measuring devices;

- the ability to carry out experimental studies of electrical circuits and devices, determine their parameters, detect malfunctions in electrical circuits and take measures to prevent damage;

- knowledge and understanding of electrical technology and electrical machines theory;

- knowledge of the principles of operation, properties, technical characteristics and design features of direct current, alternating current machines, transformers and their operation and maintenance  rules;

- the ability to carry out experimental studies of electric machines characteristics , to determine their parameters;

- knowledge of a modern automated electric drive structure , its constituent parts and elements, classification of electric drives, basics of electric drive mechanics;

- knowledge of the energy properties of electric drives in stable and dynamic modes, the ability to choose the power of electric motors taking into account their operating modes and operating conditions;

- the ability to use stationary and portable devices in order to carry out experimental studies, diagnostics and detect malfunctions in electrical circuits;

- ability to monitor electrical equipment operation parameters;

- the ability to use electrical equipment in compliance with safety regulations and operating rules;

- the ability to read, analyse, understand basic electrical circuits, assemble electrical circuit according to their schematic and wire diagram;

- the ability to work independently with educational, methodological and reference literature in the field of electrical engineering and related disciplines.

Content of course unit

The acquisition of learning outcomes for the educational component is achieved by studying the educational material in the following sections:

  1. Electric and magnetic DC circuits with linear and non-linear elements.
  2. Electric circuits of sinusoidal current and magnetically coupled circuits.
  3. Three-phase electric circuits.
  4. Transient processes of linear electric circuits.
  5. Transformers.
  6. Marine electrical machines: asynchronous, synchronous and direct current machines.
  7. Basics of an electric drive.
