Learning outcomes of course unit

To know:

- Principles of ship power plants elements operation (SPP) (main and auxiliary), and the basics of their functioning.

- Structural characteristics of ship steam boilers, steam and gas turbines, internal combustion engines, steering machinery.

- Structural characteristics and principle of operation of ship's auxiliaries, deck mechanisms and refrigeration equipment.

- General rules of SPP elements technical operation.

To be able to:

- Use the characteristics of the ship's power plant when performing the duties of a watchkeeping engineer at the operational level.

- Ensure the requirements of international conventions regarding the safety of navigation, environmental protection and protection of human life at sea.

The learning outcomes of the educational component are achieved by studying the following sections:

- General information about the structure and classification of SPP;

- Marine steam boilers;

- Marine steam and gas turbine plants;

- Marine diesel power plants;

Equipment (if applicable)    Stands, models, posters and training films for better understanding of a ship's power plant operation.
