Learning outcomes of course unit

Know the modern achievements in marine engineering to ensure the reliability of ship  equipment and safety at sea;

Know the power distribution schemes construction principles  in ship power electrical plants (SEPPs) and their control systems (CS), parameters and indicators of reliable operation of SEPPs;

Know the circuit-technical solutions and the elemental base of modern SEPPs;

Know the main dependencies and formulas for determining the necessary parameters of SEPPs;

The ability to read single-line schemes of the SEPPs, depending on their purpose;

The ability to determine the interchangeability of individual scheme elements;

Understand the dangers and know the precautions necessary for the operation of power systems with a voltage higher than 1000 V;

Know the technologies of high-voltage SEPPs;

Know electrical safety tools and procedures;

Know the systems of generation and distribution of electricity in the SEPPs with a voltage of more than 1000 V;

Know the design characteristics of high-voltage plants, control devices and system configuration of electric motors operational control equipment;

Know the diagnostic methods of and troubleshooting electrical, electronic control equipment and monitoring systems of ships’ high-voltage plants;

Know the structures and methods of controlling multi-level high-voltage cascade frequency converters in regular and emergency situations;

To know the electrical plants of the electric drive for ships’ propulsion complexes, electric motors, energy converters and control systems;

The ability to carry out safe operation, maintenance, diagnosis and troubleshooting of electrical and electronic control equipment and monitoring systems of ships’ high-voltage systems;

The ability to optimize work modes, developing the strategy for the use and technical maintenance for the SEPPs;

The ability to organize the collect, summarize and analyze information on the technical condition, environmental and operational characteristics of types of SEPPs during their operation and maintenance;

The ability to develop recommendations for the improvement of SEPPs;

The ability to debug protection, check blocking, etc.;

The ability to carry out computer modeling of specific schemes of the SEPPs in order to evaluate their parameters and the quality of electricity.
