Learning outcomes of course unit | Know and understand: 1) environmental characteristics of marine internal combustion engines (ICE); 2) characteristics of fuels used in internal combustion engines; 3) formation and composition of harmful impurities in exhaust gases; 4) methods of reducing the content of harmful impurities; 5) ways to reduce the content of CO2, NOx, SOx; 6) alternative fuels for marine internal combustion engines; 7) use of gas fuel LNG, LPG; 8) use of biofuel additives. Be able to: 1) using the regulatory documentation, requirements of the Conventions, prepare for the technical operation of ship’s diesel installations (SDI); 2) in accordance with the position and functional duties, ensure directly environmentally safe operation, management of technical use and technical maintenance of SDI, engage in production, design and research activities in the field of environmentally safe operation of SDI; 3) control the parameters of work processes, characteristics of fuels, thermal and mechanical stress of engines, carry out regulation that ensures compliance with the requirements of normative environmental safety documents; 4) carry out the necessary operations to ensure the environmental standards of operation of the SDI; 5) draw up documentation in accordance with current regulations on environmentally safe operation of the SDI. |
