Knowledge:

  1. Methods of organizing engine-room watchkeeping in accordance with the ISM Code and STCW.
  2. Standards and requirements for crew interaction in accordance with Engine Room Resource Management (ERRM).
  3. The Formal Safety Assessment (FSA) method and risk analysis.

Understanding:

  1. Principles and methods of safe operation of the ship power plant.
  2. Emergency response procedures.

Skills:

  1. Organizing efficient and safe operation of auxiliary machinery, systems, and the main engine of the ship power plant under normal and emergency conditions.
  2. Ensuring the organization of main engine control from different control stations.
  3. Applying teamworking skills to maintain the safe operation of the ship power plant (SPP).
  4. Using methods of optimal control of the ship power plant when navigation conditions change, adjusting automation systems, and carrying out diagnostics to identify faults.

Topic 1. Principles of safe operation of the ship power plant, responsibilities of the engine department, and organization of engine-room watchkeeping.

Topic 2. Formal Safety Assessment (FSA) and risk analysis in the engine room.

Topic 3. Analysis of emergency situations and practical response: actions of the engine department.

Topic 4. Interaction of the engine department in accordance with Engine Room Resource Management (ERRM) standards.

Topic 5. Control of the main engine and auxiliary machinery under normal and emergency operating conditions.

Topic 6. Optimization of the operation of the ship power plant under varying load and navigation conditions.
