Learning outcomes of course unit

Successful completion of the program of the educational course requires the cadet (student) to obtain the following learning outcomes in the educational discipline:

  • understanding of the structure, purpose, principles of action and work processes of steam and gas power plant;
  • understanding of schemes and principles of operation of modern main, auxiliary and utilization turbine and boiler plants;
  • knowledge of the characteristics of thermodynamic processes occurring in a ship's boiler, steam and gas power plants;
  • knowledge and understanding of the design and principles of operation of the equipment that ensures the working process of boiler and ship turbine plants;
  • knowledge and understanding of the components of the thermal balance of a ship's steam and gas power plants;
  • knowledge of the configuration and functional purpose of individual elements of the systems that ensure the operation of the ship's boiler, steam and gas power plants, in particular fuel, lubrication, blowing, steam extraction, automatic regulation;
  • knowledge and understanding of methods that ensure increased efficiency of heat use and intensification of energy conversion processes;
  • understanding the conditions for ensuring the reliable operation of ship turbine plants (including ensuring the reliability of circulation, the level of thermal, hydraulic and mechanical stress of boiler and turbine plants equipment);
  • knowledge, understanding and the ability to use methods of control and maintenance of the necessary technical condition of the internal and external surfaces of the boiler, steam and gas power plants;
  • knowledge of the principles of automatic control of a boiler, steam and gas power plant;
  • knowledge, understanding and ability to manage operating modes of ship boiler and turbine plants;
  • knowledge and the possibility of ensuring the environmental characteristics of the operation of ship-new boiler and turbine installations, as well as indicators of their reliability and economy;
  • knowledge and understanding of organizational and technical measures to increase the efficiency of operation of ship boiler and turbine plants;
  • understanding and ability to perform structural calculations of individual boiler and ship turbine elements, in particular for strength and aerodynamic resistance;
  • the ability to use regulatory documents and draw up mandatory ship documentation, regarding reporting on the technical operation of ship boiler and turbine plants.

The acquisition of learning outcomes for the educational component is achieved by studying the educational material in the following sections:

- The structure of turbomachines, cycles and basic thermal schemes of steam-turbine and gas-turbine plants.

- Turbine stage.

- Steam turbine plants.

- Gas turbine installations.

- Compressors of gas turbine plants: axial and centrifugal.

- Operation of ship turbine units.

- Steam power plant of the ship.

- Structure and technical characteristics of modern boilers.

- Fuel. Furnace processes.

- Efficiency of heat use and heat exchange processes.

- Processes inside the boiler and on the outside of the heating surfaces.

- Technical use and maintenance of boiler plant. Requirements of classification societies.
