Learning outcomes of course unit

The outcomes are:

  • Improvement of the principles of operation of power plants, ship auxiliary mechanisms and marine technical terms
  • Reinforcement of the theoretical material of the discipline and development of the rules of technical components of the SPP and systems, also the preparation of basic practical skills for power supply, energy management, and the management of the family of modern equipment. languages
  • Knowledge of implementation methods, the principle of operation, the main advantages and disadvantages of various types of thermal engines, additional installation of SPP and systems, refrigeration units, heat exchangers, ship systems, as well as knowledge of maritime terms and how to work in mechanical departments.

  • Ship power plants and systems of modern marine vessels, their types and composition. Special terms used in engine rooms.
  • Theoretical foundations of heat engineering, 1 and 2 laws of thermodynamics. The working body, parameters of its state, thermodynamic processes and cycles.
  • Ship's steam boilers, their types (main, auxiliary and disposal; water and gas), device, principle of operation, purpose, main characteristics. The process of generating saturated steam and its overheating. Preparation and system of feed water.
  • Internal combustion engines, their types (2-stroke and 4-stroke), device, principle of action, cycles. Methods of supercharging internal combustion engines. Comparative analysis of low-speed and medium-speed internal combustion engines, their advantages and disadvantages.
  • Internal combustion engine and engine room systems, their types, purpose, composition. and systems: fuel, oil, cooling. Start and reverse internal combustion engine, starting compressed air system.
  • Steam and gas turbine installations, their composition, principle of operation, cycles. Types of steam turbines (active and reactive), the principle of their operation. Schematic diagrams and thermal systems.
  • Ship auxiliary mechanisms. Volumetric and hydrodynamic pumps(piston, screw, centrifugal, axial, jet), features of their operation. Heat exchangers, their purpose, classification, device.Systems and installations for sea desalinationwater Installations for wastewater treatment. Separators and filters for purification of oil-containing water, devices for controlling the oil content of purified water. Installations for incineration of waste. Deck mechanisms (anchor and mooring mechanisms, boat and cargo winches). Steering cars, their characteristics. Refrigeration units.
  • General ship and special ship systems, their purpose, composition, principle of operation. Systems: drying, ballast, fire protection, ventilation and air conditioning, heating. A system of hydraulic oil that ensures the operation of ship's hydraulic drives.
