Learning outcomes of course unit
  • Knowledge and understanding of the operation of devices, signalling and tracking systems.
  • Knowledge of the structure of in-ship communication systems and the ability to transmit, receive and register messages in accordance with the established requirements.
  • The ability to detect faults in electrical circuits, trace them, and take measures to prevent damages.
  • Knowledge of the design and methods of using electrical and electronic control and measurement equipment during gathering and interpretation of information in order to determine the state of technical means and systems.
  • Knowledge of the configuration, operation principles and operational tests of tracking systems, automatic control devices, protective devices.

  • General information about simultaneous transmissions. Principle of action, circuit diagram. Induction system of synchronous transmission.
  • Ship electric telegraphs. Ship control systems diagram, functional diagrams. Ship machine telegraphs.
  • Steering telegraphs and steering indicators. Ship telegraphs and indicators operation.
  • The principle of telephone transmission. Structural diagram of the telephone line. Electroacoustic microphone and telephone transducers. Battery-free telephone communication.
  • Classification and characteristics of ship telephone communication systems. Public telephone communication systems with an ATS and digital telephone communication.
