Learning outcomes of course unit
  • Knowledge of:
    • physical principles of electrotechnical materials action;
    • basic parameters of electrotechnical materials, as well as the dependence of these parameters on operating conditions;
    • the influence of electrotechnical materials properties, as well as operating conditions based on the characteristics and parameters of the marine electrical and electronic equipment;
  • Ability to:
    • select and compare electrotechnical materials according to the main parameters and operating criteria when repairing the ship equipment;
    • independently use the necessary reference literature on electrotechnical materials when repairing and operating the electrical and electronic equipment of the ship.

The ‘Electrotechnical materials’ discipline is basic for electrotechnical profile specialties, since it provides fundamental training for the study of special disciplines, it is decisive in the formation of the professional level of electrical engineers, and is an integral part of the formation of general and special competencies of applicants of the first (bachelor’s) level of higher education of 271.03 ‘Operation of ship electrical equipment and automation means’ specialization. Higher education applicants need the ‘Electrotechnical materials’ discipline to obtain quantitative and qualitative information about the basic concepts of electrical materials, their structural elements and physical quantities. ‘Electrotechnical materials’ discipline teaches: essential physical phenomena and properties of a large range of electrotechnical materials, their parameters, as well as the impact of external factors on the properties of electrotechnical materials, which is necessary for the maintenance, operation and repair of ship electrical and electronic equipment.

Equipment (if applicable)    An educational and experimental laboratory stand, a voltmeter, a multimeter, a collection of samples of materials mounted on boards for research and connection to stands.
