Learning outcomes of course unit | Remember: the main characteristics of the object and subject matter of logic; stages of the development of logic as a science; definitions of the main forms and structures of reasoning; meanings and functions of basic concepts related to various logical theories. Understand: the differences between traditional and modern logic; peculiarities of syntactic and semantic paradigms of logic; distinctions between the correctness and truth of logical forms; disparities between the logical and rhetorical aspects of argumentation. Apply: ability to “translate” from natural language to formal language (and vice versa); identifying logical errors in definitions, arguments, and proofs, etc.; demonstrating logical literacy (formulating and justifying one's own thoughts using logically correct means). Analyze: the philosophical and mathematical nature of logic as a science; logical form of language structures; problems of ontological neutrality of logic. Evaluate: peculiarities of applying logic in different disciplines; relevance of using logical tools (formalization, axiomatization, etc.) in various types of activities; epistemological problems of logical proof; syntactic and semantic validity of professional texts (oral or written). Create: generating structured and valid arguments based on given assumptions; constructing consistent models of situations in everyday, professional, and scientific activities using logical tools. |
